Phoenix Suns in Trouble?
I get the hype that the Phoenix Suns are getting and sometimes I feel like I am buying into it as well. However, you sort of just have to sit there for a few minutes and really look at the roster and think about the holes that this team has. The team really is lacking depth and a facilitator BADLY. Now I know what you are saying, "How can a team with Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal, Devin Booker, and Deandre Ayton not make it to the NBA Finals", and to me that answer is easy. Kevin Durant is trying to convince us on twitter right now that you do not need defense and you just need a bunch of scorers. I am not here to disagree with that stance during the regular season, but I am going to disagree with that stance when it is playoff basketball. When you start facing teams that not only can score the ball but also have defensive studs, that is where this team is going to run into trouble. If you look at what happened to them against the Nuggets in this years playoffs, that is a prime example of what is going to happen to them all over again next year. PLUS, I really do not see this team working out in general. You have three very ball dominant players who want to put up 20+ a night without having to decrease their shots. So in my mind as good as this team looks on paper, I just do not see it working out in the long run.
I also wanted to look at their players a little more. I get that everyone is buying Devin Booker hype right now, even though I will personally never know why. The kid can shoot the ball, I will give him that, but what else does he do that brings him to that superstar level? He isn't a great defender, he is a pretty good facilitator (and that is being pretty lenient), and he really does not have any handles. Maybe he is a good locker room presence but thats all I got. He is not a player that in my mind could make a difference in title contention. I feel basically the same exact way about Bradley Beal, which I get they are both shooting guards, but at the same time you can not afford to have carbon copies on your team when you want to win a championship. DeAndre Ayton just looks like he does not even want to play the game of basketball and might be on the suns still just to sabotage. Then you have one of the best players in the world Kevin Durant, not much to say about him because I am sure you all realize his greatness. No clue who their starting guard would even be, if I were the Suns I would call up Rajon Rondo and see what he is up to now and give him the minimum. If they did that my opinion on the team would automatically change, but I doubt it does. Lastly, their bench is looking HORRIBLE. I mean you know it is bad when their fans get hyped over signing Bol Bol and Yuta Watanabe.
Basically all I am trying to tell you is do not expect this team to go as far as the media is trying to tell you. Do not place bets on them to win the championship, I just do not see it happening.
